Bottlebrush Flower Essence Medicine

Bottlebrush Flower Essence Medicine

The view outside my bedroom window is that of a magnificent Bottlebrush (Callistemon linearis) tree in full bloom. The birds and the bees are absolutely loving it; nature is alive, Spring has sprung! Tis the season calling us forth into renewal and growth.

Bottlebrushes belong to the family Myrtaceae and are members of the genus Callistemon, of which there are about 50 species. They are closely related to paperbark melaleucas, which also have 'bottlebrush' shaped flower spikes. They are native to Australia; in fact the entire Callistemon genus is endemic to this
continent. They are found mostly on the east coast where they prefer moist conditions and regular watering, however there are a few species also found in Tasmania and Western Australia, some of which are tolerant to drought.

As a flower essence, Bottlebrush is the ultimate “letting go” remedy, “brushing” out the past and allowing people to move through major life changes, such as relationship and work upheavals, adolescence and puberty, parenthood, menopause, ageing, death and dying. This essence really comes into its power
where the upheavals are accompanied by overwhelm and unhealthy ‘holding on’ to old habits, beliefs and patterns.

I am feeling a strong resonance with the Bottlebrush essence at the moment and have been including it in many remedies; for myself and others. We sure are living in fast-moving times where our regular life platforms are constantly shifting and changing, and requiring of us too, to change; to let go of all that we have known, allowing the space to open for new ways of being. I cannot think of a more appropriate essence to ease the path forward and for celebrating the season of Spring.

On a physical level, Bottlebrush can alleviate constipation, as it acts like a brush for the colon, helping one to let go and release; like nature’s colonic! It is a beautiful remedy for new mothers (all mothers, in fact) as it gently fosters and strengthens bonds between mothers and their babies (and children). It is also
excellent medicine for unresolved mother issues, and who of us can’t say they don’t need a bit of that action?!

Flower essences are a subtle medicine, working on vibrational levels; they are gentle yet powerful and effective at treating some of the more underlying aspects of an illness. I often include them in the herbal formulas I make for my clients, but most often they are administered on their own. The recommended dosage of an essence is 7 drops under the tongue, first thing in the morning and last thing at night, usually for a period of two weeks.

They are safe to use, including in pregnancy and with children, and very affordable. Bottlebrush is just one of the sixty-nine flower essences available in the Australian Bush Flower Essence (ABFE) range. I offer mini consults with an essence for a small cost of $33.
